Brand Context

VettedHaul exists because the legal landscape for freight brokers changed on May 14, 2026. In Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, the US Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the federal Aviation Administration Authorization Act of 1994 (FAAAA) does not preempt state-law negligent-hiring claims against freight brokers. The preemption defense brokers had relied on for thirty years is closed for this category of claim.

The ruling did not impose strict liability. It said the cases now proceed in state court on the merits. The merits turn on what the broker checked at the moment of booking and what the broker can produce in discovery.

VettedHaul captures the four-check standard (FMCSA safety rating, CSA scores across the seven BASIC categories, certificate of insurance, operating authority status) at the moment of booking. The record is cryptographically timestamped, immutable after capture, and exportable as a subpoena-ready PDF + JSON evidence pack. Defense counsel hands the pack to opposing counsel the day a demand letter arrives.

The product is sold to small-to-mid US freight brokerages (~29,000 of the ~30,000 FMCSA-licensed brokers fit this profile). The category did not exist before the May 14 ruling. Existing carrier vetting tools (Highway, RMIS, Carrier411, MyCarrierPortal, Carrier Assure, CarrierOwl, VettaVerify) sell workflow efficiency or fraud detection. VettedHaul sells litigation-defense documentation.

Positioning

VettedHaul is not a workflow tool. It is not a fraud-detection tool. It is a litigation-defense documentation tool, purpose-built for the post-Montgomery legal standard.

Wedge framing: "Highway and RMIS produce compliance reports. VettedHaul produces evidence packs."

The category did not exist before May 14, 2026. Every existing carrier vetting tool was designed around workflow efficiency or fraud detection. None were designed around the question "what can I produce in a deposition." VettedHaul is.

Buyer cohorts

Primary: Small-to-mid US freight brokerages outside the top 3% revenue concentration. Approximately 29,000 of the ~30,000 FMCSA-licensed brokers fit this profile. They run on spreadsheets, FMCSA SAFER lookups, and folder-of-PDFs systems. None of those survive a deposition.

Secondary: Mid-market brokers (3,000-10,000 loads/month) who layer VettedHaul on top of existing workflow tools for the litigation-defense capability those tools don't provide.

Tertiary: Insurance underwriters writing contingent auto liability who want their broker book to maintain documented vetting processes. Increasingly a yes/no underwriting question.

  • RMIS — legacy carrier-monitoring inside Truckstop ecosystem, $1,000-$3,000+/mo
  • MyCarrierPortal — Descartes ecosystem carrier-onboarding layer, enterprise sales-led

Disqualifying-condition kill switches

  • Congress restores FAAAA broker preemption legislatively. (Unlikely near-term; would require federal action against current plaintiff-bar momentum.)
  • Existing competitor (Highway, RMIS) successfully reframes itself as litigation-defense documentation product. Compresses the wedge.
  • Cargo theft and double-brokering fraud become the dominant broker risk category, displacing negligent-hiring exposure. Shifts buyer attention to fraud-prevention category (Highway's segment).
